Remco Vlaanderen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, and has been involved in New Media as an artist, designer, writer, editor, and producer since the very beginnings of the World Wide Web in the mid-1990s. During the 1990s, he worked on a wide range of projects, from art to new media and from web design to television programs. From 2000 till 2004, he was a curator for the World Wide Video Festival in Amsterdam. Over the years, he has published a range of articles on media art, motion design, video games, popular culture, and the web. Remco has been an editor, curator and creative producer at the Amsterdam-based new media lab Submarine Channel since 2005, assisting and advising on all sorts of creative issues that come up during the development of Submarine’s interactive animations and documentaries. For Submarine Channel, he also curated the growing database of movie- and tv-opening titles „(Forget the Film,) Watch the Titles“.
An avid graphic novel reader – loving both the tactility of print and the new hybrid digital forms of the medium – Remco is the creative producer behind Submarine’s interactive interactive graphic novel The Art of Pho. He speaks regularly about the creative potential of interactive graphic novels at events and festivals worldwide. Currently, Remco is working on a VR app and a new interactive graphic novel series.
Remco is also co-founder and co-curator of screendiver.com, an online platform for interactive comics.
