Education and Work Experience

I graduated as a graphic designer in 2010 and started my Bachelor studies at AKV|St.Joost in Breda in the same year. After three years I decided to continue my education at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. In 2015 I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography with honours. I was nominated for the Drempelprijs by the municipality of Rotterdam for my graduation project ‘Dad, Mom, Can I Live in the Clouds?’. The same project was nominated for the Young Talent Award by Lease-plan and was displayed at the Affordable Art Fair in Amsterdam. At the same time I won the Audience Award by Galerie Pouloeuff with my photographic work ‘I’m the Director of Reality’. I’m currently pursuing my Master of Fine Arts at AKV|St.Joost.

In addition to my studies I also initiated WKNDX:, a platform within Electron Breda where I create weekend exhibitions of young talent. At the master’s programme I focus on my artistic practice, as well as curating and organizing exhibitions. Gallery Mooi-Man in Groningen currently represents my work.

Research Question

Let’s postulate that being born is an inconvenience.
On Wednesday, March 16th, 2016 at 11:26, I was 826.28206 seconds old. At that time, I made up the balance of my life. Every year, every month, every day, every hour, every minute, and every second; but why all this?
Because I was born!

I want to live, I want to die, I want to laugh, I want to cry, I want it slow, I want it fast, I want to hold, I want to repel, I want to feel, I do not want to feel, I want to be loved, I just wanna have sex, I want to continue, I want to stop, I want to stay, I want to go.
I love the extremes, I love the middle.

Life is confusing, life is full of contradictions and full of choices. With my subjective view, I try to give meaning to a meaningless existence in this absurd world with all its contradictions. I do this through lens-based media, installation, performance and text. My own life, the body, sexuality, identity and everyday environment help form the foundation of my work. Alienation and distortion are some of the main features. My work is often sculptural and performative involving the naked body.
Welcome to my everyday (un)reality.
