Simone Engelen [1988] is a visual artist from The Netherlands, currently based in Tokyo, Japan. She finished the Master Program in Photography at the AKV St. Joost in 2016. Her work focuses mainly on the position of women, incorporating a range of artistic strategies like photography, sound and installation. For her graduation project ‘Love Hotel’, she used the walls of a capsule hotel in Tokyo as a diary, showing an introspective, obsessive and at times destructive struggle on coping with a sexual trauma; transforming pain into power.
